Advantages

Li-ion exchange batteries by HBC-radiomatic ensure first-class performance. In relation to their energy density, they are very light, highly resilient and extremely durable. In addition, they offer much more power and can be charged more quickly than older battery types.

Battery capacity & charge cycles

The battery capacity (= amount of electric current that can be stored) and the battery charge (= actual amount of stored current) depend on the age of the battery and the environment’s temperature. At temperatures below -20 °C (-4 °F) and above +70 °C (158 °F), less capacity is available.

Our Li-ion exchange batteries work with charge cycles. One charge cycle is completed when a complete charge that corresponds to 100 % of the battery capacity is achieved. Similar to a smartphone, one charge cycle is usually not completed entirely in one stage, but rather over a series of steps. A charge cycle is completed if the whole battery capacity is used; this cycle is not interrupted if the battery is charged in the meantime.

Example:
The operator uses a charge that corresponds to 65 % of the battery capacity in one day. Then the battery is charged. On the next day, a charge that corresponds to 35 % of the battery capacity is used. This completes one charge cycle.

When handled properly, Li-ion batteries can reach around 500 charge cycles. Even thereafter, the batteries can still be used with a slightly decreased capacity.

Charging Li-ion batteries

Important notes for the safe charging of Li-ion batteries:

  • Charge the battery only with the respective HBC charger.
  • Charge the battery at an ambient temperature between 0 – 45 °C (32 – 113 °F).
  • Always charge the battery completely before initial use. This ensures that the battery has its full capacity available for its first use.
  • To prevent overheating, remove all carrying bags and protection covers from devices with integrated batteries.
Storage

The following points should be kept in mind when storing Li-ion exchange batteries:

  • Always charge the battery completely before initial use. This ensures that the battery has its full capacity available for its first use.
  • For storing Li-ion batteries, a battery charge of 30 – 50 % is ideal. Charge an empty battery for approx. 1 hour to reach this level of charge.
  • Li-ion batteries loose capacity that cannot be recovered when stored for longer periods.
  • Therefore, charge the batteries at intervals not exceeding 3 months.
Tips for using the battery

Li-ion batteries by HBC-radiomatic score big with their performance and longevity. We have collected a few important notes so you can benefit as long as possible from these advantages:

  • Note the indicated temperature ranges for using, charging and storing the Li-ion batteries. Using, charging or storing batteries at extreme temperatures outside these specifications can decrease the battery’s capacity.
  • Charge the Li-ion batteries in time and avoid a complete discharge. Deep-discharges are prevented in our Li-ion batteries by the use of intelligent protective circuits.
  • Never store discharged Li-ion batteries. For storage, a battery charge level of 30 – 50 % is ideal. Charge an empty battery for approx. 1 hour to reach this charge.
Transport

Adhere to the legal regulations for the transport and shipping of Li-ion batteries applicable to your country. We deliver all HBC batteries with Li-ion technology in a suitable packaging with all required documents and safety notifications.

In the case of air transport, the charge level of the batteries must not exceed 30 percent.
For this reason, we charge our Li-ion batteries to a level of 20 to 30 percent before dispatch. This also allows for an extended storage period that will not result in a reduction of the service life.

Disposal

All rechargeable batteries offer a limited amount of charge cycles. Adhere to the legal regulations for the disposal of Li-ion batteries applicable to your country!

Your HBC contact person will be glad to assist you with the disposal. Please contact us and we will arrange the handling.
